i have 3 windows drives, c,d,& e besides 2 usb drives. the usb show up on desktop when starting up but the other 3 do not even tho they are mounted. am i doing something wrong or is there some way to show these on desktop also?

Do you mean that beside the linux partitions you have three partitions belonging to a windows OS also on your system? And that they are mounted somewhere? Why do you want to see them on your desktop? You do not see /, /home or other partitions you may have on your desktop, do you? All partitions together make one great filetree and you can use this without really knowing wich file is on which partition.
When you want a link from your desktop to any place in that big tree (including a place that by accident happens to be the place where a NTFS filesystem is mounted) you can do so by right-clicking on the desktop > make new > link to location (KDE on 10.3, must be about the same on other combinations).
to whom it may concern:
i am neither interested in nor do i want someone’s opinion as to why i want or don’t want something on my desktop. i want it there because i want it there, that’s the only reason i need. i posted here in hopes of receiving an intelligent response to my question, not personal opinions. in the future please refrain from responding to my questions.
Just create a new launcher in the desktop. Rigth click on a empty area on desktop, select “create a launcher” (I don’t know if this is the exact translation, because I’m using spanish locale), then in type select “place” or “path” (again, one of both may show), then enter /windows/c in the text control. Do it again for others partitions.
i tried as you suggested but get msg ‘there is no app installed for this file type’

You need to select ‘Location’ in the dropdown box at the top first, eg;
Type: Location
Name: Windows C Drive
Command: /windows/C

thats what i did… selected ‘location’ from type field; typed in ‘windows c’ in name field; then in field named ‘location’ typed /windows/C. still got same msg mentioned previously???
