second Graphic Display

Hallo,
i am an Linux Beginner and i just installed Suse Linux 11.0 on my 800 Mhz Pentium III and it works fine so far. But, now i installed in addition to the on board Graphic Hardware an AGP Graphic Card. Now the System is working fine with this card, and i tried to “activate” the on board card to work with two Monitors. But i did not find the second Card in sax2.

Impossible??:frowning:

Unlikely. What is more likely is those who have succeeded in doing such a configuration do not bother to visit our volunteer forum.

Hi
You just need to run the sax2 command telling the application you have
two graphics cards eg;

If you press ctrl+alt+F1 you should get to a console login, login as
your normal user, then;

su -
init 3
sax2 -r -m 0=vesa 1=vesa
init 5 && exit
ctrl+alt+F1
exit
ctrl+alt+F7

That should get you a GUI running with two graphics cards… the
ctrl+alt+F7 gets you back to the GUI (X session).

Note: I have used vesa in the example, you need to replace with
whatever video drivers you are using.

Hi malcomlewis,

when i type sax2 -r -m 0=vesa 1 =vesa

sax2 opens but just with one Monitor. Somehow it ignores the second card. Could it be possible, that my Motherboard is kind of switching the on board card of, as soon there is an AGB Card plugged in?

Hi
Does the system see both cards? Either from dmesg output or hwinfo eg

sudo zypper in hwinfo
/usr/sbin/hwinfo --gfxcard

it does not look so:
