screen size not always correct

Hi !
I recently installed opensuse 12.1on my laptop, and it is mostly working fine, but there are two problems:
first, my screen is of size 1366x768 and usually when i start up, it will show the desktop at that size, but ocasionally it will show it as 1024 x 768 when it starts up, apparently for no reason at all. Then i manually set it back to 1366x768 using the system settings- size and orientation.
I notice then that behind “1366x768” it says “auto” but that option is not selected- the 1024 x 768 is.

second, The last time i reset the scrreen size it generated an error and now the desktop looks bad- some buttons of the panel are shown in black and only turn grey as they should when the mouse is hovered over them.ç

I would be very thankful for any suggestions!

Next time you have this issue check /var/log/Xorg.0.log for errors (EE) and/or warnings (WW).

Also provide more info on graphics card/chipset (hwinfo --gfxcard). Is it an hybrid system?

hi, thanks for helping!!

I have beein trying things today and it seems that by changing the windows decoration theme the issue of the blackened buttons is solved. I haven’t had the first issue (changing screen size) either but that one only manifests occasionaly so i don’t really know if it is solved.
also, i installed the gnome desktop and that one works fine. So maybe it is a KDE issue.
Anyway, things seem to work now.
If i can do people a favour by sending more data about the issue please say so, I’d be happy to, but for me it seems solved- or worked around.

Many thanks again!
for completeness, the output of hwinfo --gfxcard:

Glad you could work around it. Do keep in mind to check Xorg log if the problem reappear.
