In particular the post by jekndi about half way through first page of replies in the thread…
Connect your phone via USB to computer.
Open the notifications bar at top of phone.
In order to see the details about any notifications you can pull down the notification bar like a drop down curtain, just slide your finger from the top of the screen down-wards. You can then see the details about a notification by pushing the item, e.g. if you have a notification for an SMS or email, you can see the SMS or email text by pushing that its notification. To dismiss all notifications you push the Clear button.
With Android 4 and newer you can also access the notifications from the lock-screen. Furthermore you can dismiss each notification by sweeping it left or right.
Scroll down and you will see the little USB symbol and the text “Connected as a media device” with the text “Touch for other USB options” .
Tap this item to open
Tap the box next to Media device (MTP) so that a check mark is in the box and not Camera (PTP)
Go to camera on computer drives and look in Phone>DCIM>Camera. Both photos and mp4 files should now appear.
It doesn’t seem to be specific to Linux, but rather with the Android OS behaviour. (I don’t own such a device so can’t test easily for myself without borrowing one of my family’s Samsung phones or tablets).
There are other posts further down that the thread with more potentially useful comments and suggestions… Quoting just a couple of posts…
Here’s an alternative solution based on a post from a colleage’s post:
If you don’t have, install a file manager on smartphone (LG G3 comes with one of these)
On the file manager, go to /storage/external_SD/DCIM
Select to copy the “Camera” folder to another one (for example, on /storage/external_SD/temp directory)
Now, this directory is visible on Windows 8.1 and you can see the pictures and videos
UPDATE-- Solved my problem. I used filemanager to MOVE all my images to the camera folder. They are now all visible on the PC. Next I used file manager to delete the folders I had previously created. I then connected to the PC and and remade all the folders again on the SD card…(I like my pictures to be in separate folders, like Albums). I then moved all the photos into the separate folders… and hey presto!.. I can see them all again on the PC. So it would appear that the folders were corrupt?..who knows?
