Running out of memory while using wine

I play a game/virital-world called IMVU. It is not available for Linux.
So I run the Windows version under wine. However when I had multiple tabs open I got a low memory warning. Despite closing what few other programs I was running, it did not improve and I had to close the program and start it again. Is there something I can do to improve memory performance when using wine? Is wine a memory hog?

Maybe the game???

do you have swap?

How much memory???

What tabs???

Recommended Windows

Windows 10 or later
2.0 GHz Processor
8GB RAM
Dedicated Graphics with 2GB VRAM or better
100 GB free disk space
Greater than 100Mbps Internet connection

This program runs fine under Windows 10 on the same computer.

11th Gen Intel(R) Core™ i5-11400 @ 2.60GHz 2.59 GHz
16.0 GB (15.7 GB usable)
Intel UHD Graphics 730 (no idea how much vram)

But with linux and wine the performance is a lot less.

Yes, I have a swap partition. Tabs represent rooms in the program
environment, and the more rooms you load at a time the more memory it uses.
It would not be useful to describe details on the program to someone who
is not a user of it. But wine in general… are there tweaks to make wine
more efficient?

I remember years ago when I restored an old laptop, wiped the drive of
Windows 8 and put a version of Suse linux on it. This same program (or
the version current at that time) ran better under the emulator than
it had in windows.

The only little I know came form a quick search - under the IVMU settings menu, you can change the graphics settings eg ‘OpenGL’ and ‘Standard Graphics’. Does that make any difference here?

About 256 MiB of VRAM or less.
This game needs 2+ GiB of VRAM…
ILL you use it with software rendering.

Ah, I know where that is. I’ll try that.
