A book like that will set you back 10 years. lol!

No honestly, you will just make life more difficult for yourself using outdated information. Linux has advanced a lot since then. I bet there is information in there on how to tweak XFree86 config files by hand, how to set up PPP over dialup and so forth.

Do yourself a favour and use it as a doorstop, or substitute brick.

The book isn’t a total waste however; while it is certainly outdated in specific content, I am sure the absolute basics of Linux are still correct as these haven’t changed drastically since then.

By absolute basics, I mean basic terminal concepts, the block diagrams that explain how the different parts of the system work, the definitions of things like the shell, kernel, etc, etc. Basically, the first one or two chapters of that book are probably spot-on with the first two chapters of any newer book out there. And I’m also sure that for many of the common programs out there (vim, emacs) that have been around that long, they still have the same basic commands.

Past those basics it would only be of use for historical reference, if you’re into that kind of thing.

Okay, okay…I get the point…lol!
