Root partition reported size in Dolphin - is wrong

After selecting ‘properties’ for my workstation 80GIB root partition & asking it to be calculated, it comes back as128.1TiB.
I know that is not right.
Anyone else getting high values for root partition size in Dolphin properties?

I remember this was discussed already some time ago. The culprit is /proc which is a pseudo file system. Dolphin shouldn’t use/read it for the calculation but does. Simply google “dolphin wrong size” and you will see that this is a common and known issue.

Not happening here
15.6 or TW

Easily reproducible. From the places panel in Dolphin right click a partition and hit Calculate.

On this system, asking Dolphin to calculate the size of the Root partition results in Dolphin walking through all the drives on this system – which is why I prefer to use KDiskFree for this information.

Thanks folks.
Just another of the KDE mishaps?
There are parts of KDE I’d like to be gone, but afraid removing things will screw other things up.

Ya’ll have a good New Year!

Yea. However, keep in mind it seems the Calculate bug is only for /. The other immediately visible / size options are correct.

For example, in Dophin’s left panel, there’s a visual (horizontal) graph showing used space and total size. Also, if you right click on the / entry and select Properties, there is a field at the bottom (General tab) labeled “Free Space”, which is correct. They both match my “df -h” output.

Personally, I never use Dolphin to calculate consumed space on a partition or sub-directory tree. I use “df -h” and “du -h”.

If I need to quickly find out “where is space being consumed”, I used a graphical tool such as Filelight.

I’ve dropped a Dolphin Brainstorm topic into the KDE Discuss Forums – “Dolphin - Places - System Root Folder (/) Properties - Calculate processes more than the Root Partition

The KDE Bug Report 497011 is dealing with this issue: <Dolphin incorrectly calculates the total size of the files under / (the filesystem root directory)>

@dcurtisfra Thanks for the extra effort.

@Bill_L:

It’s no real effort and, it’s rather nice to occasionally discover an unexpected issue with an application.
