RFC: After update of open-vm-tools, external hibernation in vmplayerfails

After the update in oS 12.1 of open-vm-tools-gui-8.8.1-2.4.4 and
open-vm-tools-8.8.1-2.4.4, external hibernation in vmplayer fails the first
time.

There are two types of hibernation in vmware player. One is the guest
system hibernation, if you do “pm-hibernate”. The other is external, done
by the virtualization software, clicking the close box in the window.

When that is done, this message pops up:

Error box: “The request to Suspend this virtual machine failed because the
corresponding VMware Tools script did not run successfully. If you have
configured a custom suspend script in this virtual machine, make sure that
it contains no errors. Attempting the operation again will ignore the
script failure. You can also submit a support request to report this issue.”

Indeed, closing it and attempting a second time succeeds.

There are no entries in /var/log/messages or /var/log/pm-suspend.log. There
might be messages in the host, vmware-0.log, but i don’t know how to
interpret them.

It might be argued that this is a vmware problem, unrelated to openSUSE.
But it happened after a mandatory openSUSE update.

This has been reported as
Bugzilla #,
but I want feedback on how to track this, and if others can replicate the
issue, to add to the report.
