Repo filesystems/15.6 abruptly removed from download.opensuse.org breaking ZFS et al

Today I found that Filesystems repository at https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/filesystems/15.6/ was completely removed (in my case breaking future ZFS upgrades).

Only 15.7, 16.0 and 16.1 exist at https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/filesystems/ but LEAP 15.7 was not yet released - at least not at: https://ftp.linux.cz/pub/linux/opensuse/distribution/leap/

Is there any explanation for that breakage?

There is no plan to release Leap 15.7. Leap 16.0 is the new and current version of Leap.

Leap 15.6 is being sunsetted so there will be no future upgrades. You should upgrade to 16.0 if you want upgrades.

The openSUSE Migration Tool makes it easy to do so.

So why SUSE removed Filesystem repository for LEAP 15.6 when there is no LEAP 15.7? What is going on there?

Leap 15.7 only exists in your fantasy. Leap 16.0 comes after Leap 15.6.
https://en.opensuse.org/Lifetime

And it maybe that the maintainers of that repo are a bit early (a few weeks at most) in discontinuing it.

When you think you should have it until the last date of 15.6, then you could try with a bug report.

Your comments are completely offtopic.

I’m asking: “Why SUSE removed repository for LEAP 15.6?” (which should be still supported).

I’m NOT asking: “Why there is no LEAP 15.7?”!

Could @malcolmlewis provide some clue, please?

Try the SLE one:
https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/filesystems/SLE_15_SP6/

Otherwise enable an OBS for you and branch it:

Well, and remember, there still is official support for Leap 15.6 itself. Its end is said for end of April 2026 (not before).

I’m not entirely certain why you feel malcolmlewis has any more idea than anybody else, nor why you insist on blaming SUSE for this.

If you want the correct and proper answer, you’d need to contact the maintainers of the filesystems repository, either via bug report, or e-mailing them.

filesystems repository maintainers list: https://build.opensuse.org/project/users/filesystems

https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=openSUSE%20Distribution&component=Other would probably be the best place to file a bug report.

Did ANYONE who responded negatively (or not) actually look at the URL the OP posted (??)

It appears someone (maintainer, etc) at openSUSE messed up the sub-dir URLs. Click on it.

https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/filesystems/

I’ll assist by providing a screenshot showing the existence of “15.7” and NO “15.6” sub-directory … to show it’s goofed up before it’s fixed. I highlighted the error to make it obvious.

It’s not only about the URL. Did you have a look at the package versions?
E.g.
fuse-0.4.1-150700.3.3.x86_64.rpm

And there are many repos and projects on OBS which provides packages for the never published Leap 15.7
It might be due to a former planning state that the next Leap version should have been based on SLES 15 SP7.

Even the official SUSE documentation refers to Leap 15.7

Upgrading from openSUSE Leap 15.6 / 15.7
Upgrading from openSUSE Leap 15.6 or 15.7 is supported. See Section 5.9, “Upgrading from openSUSE Leap to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server”. Only the server installation of Leap is supported for an upgrade.

The issue is the actual URL for the repo:

https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/filesystems/15.6/

It looks more like a configuration issue with OBS somewhere. You can see it in the repository paths -

Leap 16 -
Repository paths:
openSUSE:Leap:16.0/standard

SLE 15 SP6 -
Repository paths:
SUSE:SLE-15-SP6:Update/standard

‘Mysterious’ Leap 15.7 -
Repository paths:
SUSE:SLE-15-SP7:Update/standard

That ‘Leap 15.7’ repo shouldn’t be named that at all, it should be named like the SLE 15 SP6 repo.

@hpaluch-pil Hi I can think of two scenarios;

  1. The Build Service auto delete bot sent an email saying hey this will be auto deleted in 30 days. If the Maintainer doesn’t intervene then it will get auto deleted.

  2. The maintainer (or Development Project maintainer) has decided to drop Leap 15.6 since it’s almost EOL…

Even though that wasn’t the actual question, here’s a note regarding the 15.7 entry.
I noticed a 15.7 entry months ago in another repository.
I discussed it with the repository maintainers and asked them to revert to the SLE_15_SP7 naming convention for 15.7, as 15.7 suggests it’s part of Leap.
They refused. I can’t remember the reasons. I think it was that there was no rule and they could do as they pleased.
So there was no point in discussing it further. It was pointless to continue the discussion.
The 15.7 mentioned here is therefore actually SLE_15_SP7.

Good news today - 15.6 filesystems repo is again available:

Problem resolved.

But this incomprehensible rubbish 15.7 is still around. :frowning:

That is not the subject of this topic (although it was started by information given by the TO). So may be a subject for a new topic (but I doubt that any openSUSE user has any interest in something that is offered for a version that does not exist and nobody cares for), or for a bug report (again for a openSUSE version that does not and will not exist).

My conclusion: nice for the TO here that his problem is solved, together with the advice to start planning the upgrade to 16.0.

I don’t care what you do.
What you’re saying isn’t right.
15.7 refers to a repository or version that definitely exists.
The repo for it used to be called SLE_15_SP7.
Now some people think it should be called 15.7. Which, in my opinion, is complete rubbish, because it suggests it’s a Leap repo. In fact, it’s an SLE repo.
But as I said, I don’t care what you make of that information.
