I guess it works. But since it’s publicly visible through other means, why should I make it harder to find?
There just isn’t an option natively in the Discourse platform do to that. I dug into it a bit more, and we simply don’t have that option.
I suppose if you really wanted to, you could manually add it to the profile in the “about me” section. That’s a freeform text field that you can use to say a bit about yourself.
Personally, if I were maintaining packages, I’d want people submitting tickets in the appropriate places so they could be tracked…but that’s just me.
If you click on a user’s username in the forum (in their Reply to a thread) … then their brief Profile is shown (a small rectangular box is shown) … and on the upper-right side, you will see “Message” button. Click on that to send them an email. Yea, it doesn’t reveal their real email address, but you can send a message. There’s also a button below “Message” where you can change your viewing allowance for that user.
And when that small rectangular box is shown, you can once again tap on the user’s forum username (upper center), then you are taken to the user’s full Profile page - where “Message” is also shown in upper right. Of course, if the user has chosen to “hide” their Profile, you will not see it.
Thanks! I’m now trust level 1 so I think this is not longer an issue. Sorry for the noise, I was just a little frustrated trying to reply to a discussion I’d already taken part in.
No worries, it usually isn’t a problem, but glad you’re taken care of now. ![]()
Yes, users can do that - unless they’re a new user. It’s an anti-spam protection that prevents anyone who’s a “new user” (trust level 0) from being able to send DMs.
I’ve been using opensuse since before it was opensuse on my personal systems. Suse 6 or something (maybe it was 9) in the big green retail box. It’s a bit of a testament to how well it’s always worked that I just now had to join the forum to see about the tumbleweed vs nvidia vs v7.0 kernel thing. Or maybe it’s a testament to how slack I’ve been I don’t know… ![]()
Good to have you here! ![]()
