Replacing drivers for CUDA installation

I recently tried to install CUDA using the local package installer RPM and Yast2. I followed the steps from the link at the bottom* until I was asked to permit the uninstallation of all nvidia G04/352.41-16.1 drivers, which would be replaced by the corresponding G03/346.46 drivers. At that point I aborted the installation because I was afraid to kill the X-server in the process and to have to install the drivers via terminal. I always installed the nvidia drivers from the openSUSE repositories. I am infering that the CUDA Toolkit does not work with other than the G03 drivers

That said, I would like to ask someone who already went through this process if I can safely permit the “swap” of the drivers without messing up the graphics display.

Sorry if this question seems a bit naïv, but I am not an expert.

My system: openSUSE 13.2, desktop-3.16.7-21.1.x86_64, Intel i7-4790 3.60GHz, Gigabyte H97-D3H 16Gb RAM, PNY GTX 970
