I am running OpenSuSE 11.1 with Dolphin 1.1 on KDE 4.1.3.
When I try to rename a file the whole filename is deleted and just the extension remains. i.e. “MyFile.odt” becomes “.odt”.
This happens in Konqueror and Dolphin in both inline and dialog box modes.
Has anyone else seen this behaviour or got any ideas?
Previously I remember the filename was highlighted up to the ‘.’ before the extension.
The problem doesn’t occur in KDE4.2. Try upgrading.

yes, i’m having this problem too in KDE 4.22,
do you have scim installed?
you could use ALT-ENTER ( properties ) to rename the file instead,

if you have scim installed,
try removing scim-bridge-qt package,
it’ll solve the problem
Thanks for such fast responses!!
Yes, removing package scim-bridge-qt solves the problem - thanks!
I still have scim-bridge and scim-bridge-gtk installed, scim continues to work well for smart pinyin at least.
Is the upgrade to 4.22 reasonably straightforward / worthwhile?
Thanks again

Glad to hear that it solved your problem,
4.22 has less bugs, more stable than 4.1,
just need to add KDE 4.2 factory repo
and upgrade
thanks - will upgrade this evening then
