I removed YaST from my openSUSE TW installation when it was discontinued. However every dist-update zypper still installs patterns kde_yast
yast2_basics
yast2_desktop
unless I use the flag --no-recommends
. YaST is (apparently) no longer recommended, as a result I think it should be removed from recommended packages.
YaST is being removed from Leap, but is still in TW for now. No doubt it will be removed at some point in the future, but until it is, I’m inclined to leave it on my system while I learn cockpit.
Tumbleweed is a rolling release, not a reinvented platform. As such, new tools—like Myrlyn—have been introduced gradually, allowing users to try them out before they become the default. There are still use cases where YaST continues to perform reliably, so it remains part of the system for now. However, going forward, we can expect YaST to be phased out once the newer tools are mature and fully capable of replacing its functionality

If you really don’t want packages/patterns installed, simply Taboo these packages/patterns…
