Remote control configuration

I’ve an HP dv3500 laptop that has a remote control. The receiver didn’t work straight away…
However, thanks to ubuntu forums, i got the device to work…
I removed lirc that came with opensuse 11.2 and compiled the newer version from the cvs repository with some altered drivers.

I’m pretty sure the device is working properly since “sudo irw” gives correct output.
The problem is that I can’t control my laptop in any way with the remote. I think it might have something to do with the .lircrc file but i really don’t know what’s wrong.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

well, i finally got totem to work with the remote…
but that’s about it. I had to activate a pulgin in totem in order to succeed

This seems a bit strange since a friend of mine has an HP slightly older then mine and his remote can control pretty much everything in his computer and he never had to configure anything.

And although activating a plugin in totem did the trick i really doubt that every other program will have the same solution…
