Realtek RTL8139 on SUSE Enterprise Server edition

Hi!

I’m not 100% sure if this is the right forum to ask about server edition of SUSE so my apologize if it’s offtopic.

I’m new to SUSE Enterprise server (v.10). Just recently I’ve performed standard installation of the system on AMILO Pi 2550 and when it came to configure network card (via YaST) there is no driver for Realtek RTL8139/810x NIC in the list. There was only RTL8129/8139 listed from all Realtek family, but this doesn’t work. As I’m new to SUSE server (first time using server edition too) I’ve no clue how to fix this problem. I’ve tried to research several forums a bit and solutions given in corresponding posts just don’t work in case of SUSE server:

  1. The command “modprobe” doesn’t work (“command not found”)
  2. same as “ifconfig” - not found

dmesg | grep 8139

8139cp: 10/100 PCI Ethernet driver v1.2 (Mar 22, 2004)

Can anyone help me finding driver and configuring this card?

Thank you in advice for your help!

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) - NOVELL FORUMS

@acecraft: Yes, there are SLES forums you should head to now, but I want point out that the reason you don’t find ifconfig or modprobe on your path is probably because you didn’t do su - instead of plain su. su - gets root’s environment as if logging in, which normally adds /sbin to the $PATH, where ifconfig and modprobe are.
