Read Stickys still confused

:frowning:
Unfortunately I am not a computer tech.

I looked at YAST under hardware and could find nothing about wireless, likewise for PCI I got this, but do not understand the result:

If someone understands this ( I do not! ) please post if it is relevant to what I need to find out. Or please tell me where else to look. I am baffled. Wireless worked fine with Vista out of the box. Since removing Vista I no longer have wireless capability.

Please do not get angry with my ineptitude! Like I said I am not a computer tech. I have managed to get everything else I need working, like all my video editing and photo editing stuff.Mostly through reading the threads here. Never had a need for wireless, but figured since I now have a wireless router, compliments of Verizon it would be nice to try and use it.:shame:

The 2 parts of interest to you are:

02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88E8071 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 15)
05:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g (rev 01)

wireless boffins will be sure to help. I’m not one of them I’m afraid.

Thanks. I wouldn’t even have known what any of that stuff was.

Once again I am confused as to what most Linux users, use their computers for.
Just curious.
I use mine for: General internet use, browsing e’mail
compiling and editing digital photos
downloading music and video clips and compiling them into videos to use on a DVD or music CD player.

Otherwise I have little or no use for a computer. Just curious. Realize it has nothing to do with my actual question. Really don’t need a wireless router either, but it comes with my Fios install, and since I am paying through the nose to have it, just figured it would be nice to be able to use my laptop in another room.:X

Just for everyones information, I have been using Linux in some form or another for three years. A computer geek friend of mine suggested I use it. Since I was always pestering him with windows problems, and most had to do with conflicts with the stupid security software. I was on this forum previously, but since my e’mail had changed was unable to login for some unknown reason. Would seem like many outside of the US don’t have as many ISP issues. Or maybe it’s simply because I live in redneck land, and most everyone knows even less about computers than I do. LOL

Have a look here: HCL/Network Adapters (Wireless)/Broadcom BCM43xx - openSUSE

Ken:

if you want to get your wireless working, read this:

Broadcom not connecting stuck with sticky - openSUSE Forums

I believe you have a BCM4312 802.11b/g and I believe larry finger would say you need to " install the appropriate broadcom-wl-xxxx package for your kernel"
