I’m leaving city for a week or so and I need to RDP-in to my home workstation from a Windows 7 laptop.
Can you guys recommend me an RDP server for openSUSE 12.2 ? I read about xrdp but I can’t find it anymore.

Why not tunnel vnc over ssh?
I found this tutorial about that - HowTo: Tunneling VNC Connections Over SSH
but it is for linux, and I am sure the PCs at the lcation I am going ti have windows.
Do you know a tutorial for vnc over ssh from windows to linux ?

Another option is to install FreeNX or NXServer on your Linux box, which gives great performance and security, but requires you to install the NXClient on the Windows machine(s) you will connect from.
Well, I’ve installed nx server and client and did some tests and I wasn’t impressed at all, the performance was not better than vnc over ssh so I’m gonna try out report since I don’t require shared screens but performance.
Will get back with impressions!

Ps NXServer is a pain to install and configure, it took me almost 4 hours to make it work!
I’m curious if you were comparing performance of VNC and NX on the local network vs. remote? I’ve found NX to essentially be uniformly faster over a remote connection, the NX protocol seems far more tolerant of delays in the route, etc. If you just tested locally, you might not see much difference. You can also tune the NX encryption and compression settings.
Both local and remote, it seemed equal to VNC, maybe a bit better.
Ok, I give NX another try, but I got into an issue.
Since when I log with NX the user on the server remains logged in and on the client I get looged in, in a sort of a parallel session some programs does not work, I get errors like “You are already logged in”, for example Skype.
How can I log out the user on the server trough SSH for example ? Wich is the command ?
Would the NX shadow session type assist in your case?
As for logging off a remote user, you can try logging into the server with another account (or root) and then:
#su - username
$logout
You can also use various methods to kill any processes that user is running, see Linux logout user or logoff user commands

Hi
That sounds like your not 'terminating the session. On the client side
there is an application called nxkill (well on linux anyway), which can
kill off the sessions on the remote (AFAIK next time you login) rather
than restore. I always terminate mine and have never had this issue.
