Dear OpenSuse Comunity,
My new HP Pavilion Power Laptop 15-cb0xx with OpenSuse Leap 42.3 seems to make random chirping or beeping sounds near the speakers and through the headphones even if the audio is muted. It does not happen when I open windows instead of OpenSuse. It does this even if the laptop is not doing intensive work and regardless of batery state. Does anybody know how to fix it or what could be the cause?
Thank you very much for your help,
Sergio
Welcome to openSUSE Forums sperezconesa. I’ve not encountered anything like this before. Are you sure that it is not a system sound generated by the desktop environment you’re using?
Are you sure that the beeping isn’t coming from within the laptop itself? FWIW, a quick online search using ‘HP Pavilion laptop random chirping noises’ turned up these (related to possible hardware conditions)…

Than you very much for your help but the links seem deal with other problems.
I hear it even before choosing the double boot option. It seems to be related to the audio because I can hear the beeping through the headphones even if the sound is muted…
Well, it was just a quick search, and you may need to research further yourself. Do the beeps have a pattern? Indicative of a hardware issue?

You mean at the grub screen? Not openSUSE-related at all if that’s the case.
Ok. So then I appears it is not opensuse related. Thank you very much for helping me narrow it down. I will look elsewhere for more information.
All the best,
Sergio
