Radeon Integrated Grpahics

Hi All

i have setup a new system as my old one died during a storm. I was out at the time. No great loss really as it was around 4-5 years old.

So the new machine is based on a gigabyte GA-F2A88MMX-D3H motherboard with integrated graphics and an AMD A10 FM2+ CPU. the Kaveri APU. I am also using an SSD for the root drive and another SSD for /home. I have also installed two SATA drives and I will copy the /home drive to one of the SATA drives as a backup. It all fits neatly into a HTPC cube case.

Installation was not super easy as I had to use the text based installer to install 13.1 but everything else works well. So far I am using the integrated graphics and performance is amazing compared to the old machine. Install from a USB flash drive only takes a few minutes. Boot time is 10-15 seconds or so.

My old machine had a NVIDIA card and two DVI ports so I could run two monitors and so far I have been only able to get the new machine working on one monitor. The VGA output mirrors the DVI port. I have tried the open source driver and the fglrx driver but the catalyst control panel will not start and suggests that the driver is not install or not working correctly.

Has anyone managed to get a dual monitor system working with a similar setup ?
Would an ATI graphics card with dual DVI work ?

I am not after performance as the integrated graphics is fine. I am simply trying to setup a dual monitor system.

You should probably start by telling us more about the graphics hardware in question

Hi

Thanks for the reply. I have progressed a bit. I can now setup a dual monitor system only after I boot. The machine will only boot with one monitor connected. If I connect both then boot freezes to a blank screen and I assume that happens when X tries to start.

The ‘xrandr --verbose’ report gave me the hint. Catalyst control centre works and I have a dual monitor system. The pain is to boot I must disconnect one monitor cable.
