Question about setting openSUSE Leap

Hello everybody.

So I am trying to install a Linux distro without any success. The hard drive’s current OS is Linux Mint although I usually boot into Windows 10. I have also tried installing ubuntu and arch linux with the same problem: I do not get a fancy user interface and whenever I click “install” my screen goes black and sometimes the PC reboots. I suppose it has to do with my external graphics card which is an Nvidia GTX 970 OC. Also, as you might figure, I am somewhat newb to linux. But my questions are:

Is that a common problem with a fix to it that I haven’t found?
Is the support of newer hardware that bad on linux? and of course
Does anyone know a fix to it?
Thanks in advance.

Have you tried installing openSUSE via ‘Text Mode’ install?

Which one? Using which install media (NET-install, DVD, USB device, …)?

So where does Windows 10 come from (same hard drive, second hard drive, external drive, …)?

Any error messages?

Some more information on your hardware might help (e.g. BIOS or UEFI based machine, MBR or GPT partitioned hard drives /SSDs, secureboot en-/disabled, …)

Well, at least you have Linux Mint installed on your machine …

If you search the forum you might find several hints on how to use nvidia graphic cards.

Hmm, don’t know, but i have seen openSUSE 42.1 running on a three months old MSI Gaming Notebook without any problems.

Best regards
