QT 4.5

When KDE 4.2.1 is made available on the factory repo, will the QT 4.5 repo be required?

it will be optional. 4.4 will stay default for 4.2 series, 4.3 will require QT 4.5.

Are there any advantages to using QT 4.5 with KDE 4.2.1?

the qt repo contains qt4.5beta so it seems that this is the current
standard for openSuse’s kde4 builds and if kde4.2.1 was built against it
I would think you’d be better off with it. The advantage is supposedly
that it’s faster espescially using kwin.

Unless a bunch of bug updates made it in to fix KDE 4 and QT 4.5 I don’t see that happening. In fact most developers suggest not using 4.5 with KDE 4.2 due to problems that can occur. I do know that speed is increased with 4.5, but will be even better with 4.5 and KDE 4.3.

all I know is that if you do auto updates and you have the qt repo set
then you and all the openSusers out there are running qt4.5beta and if
you think that this is a mistake you should contact the people who
manage the qt repos. Also maybe read the following
http://labs.trolltech.com/blogs/2009/02/10/why-kde-42-should-use-qt-45/

and yes there is a qt4.4 repo if you wish to still use 4.4

PS - I’m running the qt4.5 repo and the only issue I’m seeing is with

hello,

Is /KDE:/KDE4:/UNSTABLE:/Desktop/openSUSE_11.1/ repo contains KDE packages compiled against QT4.5 or QT4.4?

What is the repo for Qt4.5 (beta) ?

the qt repo is now 4.5, there is also a 4.4 repo if one prefers it
qt is http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Qt/

Updated to QT4.5 today and everything is working fine so far using the latest KDE4.2. The desktop does feel snappier overall.

same repo, aka latest stable version.
everything’s super, much faster rendering.
some plasmoids broken, thought it’s a known problem. doesn’t affect anything critical for me.

And that’s the wrong one !!! The …Qt45 repo is stated to be experimental, unstable. The …Qt repo contains the latest ‘stable’ packages.
