After updating to Slowroll 20251001 with new package kernel-default-base providing 6.17.1-1-default kernel, lots of issues including not being able to load some essential kernel modules and no GPU acceleration or external display. 
Reverting to 6.16.9 kernel and locking the kernel-default and kernel-default-base packages solved issues.
