I thought this was answered before but I can’t find the thread >:(
I have an HP laptop that I want to connect in a Windows environment. It has opensuse 11.1 and KDE4.2, using NetworkManager.
To get the wireless to see the network, I have to enter the proxy settings manually. When I do, I get a strong connection in NetworkManager. I can ping the proxy in a terminal. I cannot connect to the internet. When I open Firefox (I changed the network settings there also to match the proxy) it says the proxy is refusing a connection. In Vista, XP and opensuse 11.0, I got a dialog box asking me for the username and password to access the net via the proxy. But, this dialog box no longer comes up when I start firefox. I think it may have worked in 11.1 but now doesn’t after lots of updates via my home network.
The only thing I didn’t try is to shut down networkmanager and use ifup. Any ideas on how to get online?
I won’t be back to this site for a few days to check, but I know some answers. I can’t answers to the first 2 questions. I am on (the right) port 8080. Did not try telnet, but I will.
Why would it no longer ask for my username and password?
