I succeeded in getting the Proton servers to work via openvpn manual install. I followed the instructions on using the protonvpn gui but could not get it to work. It crashes trying to load. I added a repo and installed the gui package that brought about 2 dozen packages with it. Since I can’t get the gui to work, I want to uninstall it. Do I remember correctly that there is a command that will uninstall all the files that were brought in with the main package? If so, what is that command or method to remove all the dependencies that were added?
I now have three connections listed: wired, wireless and openvpn. Do I disconnect from wired and wireless? Or does NM negotiate with the wired and wireless connection to route them over openvpn?
You systematically use “files” when you talk about “packages”. It does not help to understand you questions.
“zypper remove --clean-deps” may do what you want. Otherwise if you used YaST/zypper to install, you may look in /var/log/zypp/history for packages installed “at the same time”. Or you could compare package list in pre and post snapshots assuming you use btrfs.

VPN connection is started in addition to any other existing connection. You cannot reach VPN server if you disconnect base connection used to access VPN server.
And none of your questions has anything to do with ProtonVPN. Next time start new tread in the suitable subforum for each unrelated question and give each thread a meaningful subject that allows anyone to see what your question is.
To be fair Prexy did not start this thread. It was tacked on to another, and moved as a moderator action. He did not set the title explicitly, but I agree that in general it is best to start a new dedicated thread for each unrelated question/issue when requesting support.
Thank you for getting this organized. I have some observations to report.
As noted by @arvidjaar, when I used Network Manager to disconnect from the wired and wireless connection, the option for openvpn disappeared . Reconnecting to either wired or wireless brought back the option to connect to the openvpn in Network Manager instantly. The slowdown of websites when connected to the vpn was very dramatic. I would not use it as an “always on” option having seen the slowdown. I don’t know if it related, but the wireless connection reported limited connectivity, meaning no internet connection.
Thank you for the reminder about “clean-deps” since the gui is not working and the manual install is complete and working. I will use it to remove unneeded packages.
That’s not what I asked. You mentioned that when the VPN was active via the Wi-Fi connectivtion, ‘Limited Connectivity’ was reported. Was internet connectivity (eg browsing, email connectivity etc) still working at that stage?
I will review the protonvpn support page to see if any of the suggestions improve the speed.
I just switched the vpn to a free server in the U.S. that was further down on the list of available servers. It has given me no connectivity issues and no dramatic slowdown.
