Proton vpn and port forwarding

Hello
Just started to use tumbleweed and so far had very few problems. One of these is still that at-least to me the proton vpn gui app feels unnecessary slow and keeps crashing and I cant access settings there to set up port-forwarding there. Could someone of you help me with this. I mean I could possibly set the port-forwarding without the app with the download stuff but when I try to do it I get error message: “Network is currently handled by NetworkManager or completely disabled. YaST is unable to configure some options.”
and I cant set it up manually. Thank you for help

I can not help you with the proton vpn gui app, did you install it using the .rpm? Likely the problems you see is because Tumbleweed is quite up-to-date while the .rpm is used for older kernels/releases.

port-forwaring I know in combination with a (masquerading) firewall, but in combination with a VPN is new to me so please better explain what you mean with port forwarding.

I have a VPN and use that not for all of the Internet for exception I did use Network Manager/nmcli to add some routes with a lower metric to the underlying Ethernet connection so that those subnets will not go through the VPN but directly through the Ethernet connection.
