I have a problem rebooting or shutting down my computer. The buttons do not work, nothing happens. If I type ‘sudo /sbin/halt’ into the console, the system shuts down as it is supposed to. In System Settings/Login Manager, the same command is specified (without sudo though). I am using KDE4 unstable.
Any help would be appreciated, like which log to check; I did not see anything relevant in /var/log/messages or dmesg.
Also, please excuse me if I posted in the wrong forum
No, I will not do that - I enjoy trying out new things, I report bugs and suggest features, I even coded some minor stuff myself and it got accepted into KDE. I would rather shut the computer down through the console or via the button on the case if there is no other alternative.
I tried checking the bug reports, but there’s a lot of stuff there, plus it doesn’t seem to affect every installation as my other computer is fine, so I thought maybe someone with the same distribution might have had a similar issue.
Anyway, if someone else has a clue, I’d appreciate it.

Is the title of this thread to do with there not being Shutdown and Restart
options in the Gui - both from the kicker “Leave” menu and the Lock/Logout
widget? If so, I just installed RC2 (x64) and they’re not there. I’m using
init 0 and init 6 for the time being.
I have the same distribution, and the same problem.
At first I didnt see the shutdown and restart options in the leave menu because I was using gdm as display manager. After installing kdm and setting it as default display manager, I was able to see these buttons, but nothing happens when clicking on them. The logout option does not work either.
I installed kde4.4 on my opensuse 11.1 following instruccions from KDE4 - openSUSE, from the factory branch repository.
I’ve been searching but I didnt find anything but this post. While there is no solutions I am using the shutdown command from commandline.
That’s right, I installed from that url, except that i used the KDE4-DEFAULT.ymp package. Any ways, yesterday it worked. I dont really know why, I havent done anything. First day of kde it didnt work, but the second it did. So my problem is solved, and I am sorry I cant say how. Thank you!
