Problem with VLC Codecs

I am missing something here on a new installation. I have the following error message when trying to open a file in VLC:-

Codec not supported:
VLC could not decode the format “h264” (H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10))

What am I missing and can it be sorted please?

First question is as always, did you do the “Switch to Packman”?

So write it down in your “Notes for Installation”. Pencil and paper are still important utensils today.
