Problem with printer driver for Canon MG8250

openSUSE 12.3, 64 bit

I have downloaded the Canon rpm’s for my new printer/scanner Canon PIXMA
MG8250.

There is an install.sh for each of the printer and scan functionalities.
Installing the scan rpm’s worked like a charm.

But the installation of the printer drivers works only for cnijfilter-
common. For cnijfilter-mg8200series there is an error complaining of failing
dependencies:

Command executed = rpm -Uvh ./packages/cnijfilter-common-3.60-1.x86_64.rpm
Preparing… #################################
[100%]
Updating / installing…
1:cnijfilter-common-3.60-1 #################################
[100%]
Command executed = rpm -Uvh ./packages/cnijfilter-
mg8200series-3.60-1.x86_64.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
libtiff.so.3()(64bit) is needed by cnijfilter-
mg8200series-3.60-1.x86_64
libxml2 is needed by cnijfilter-mg8200series-3.60-1.x86_64
Command executed = rpm -e cnijfilter-common

On my system there are the libraries (in /usr/lib/ as well as in /usr/lib64)
libtiff.so.5.2.0 and libxml2.so.2.9.0.

Setting softlinks didn’t help (e.g. libtiff.so.3 → libtiff.so.5.2.0).

What can I do?

Volker

libtiff3 is here:
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/graphics/openSUSE_12.3/x86_64/libtiff3-3.9.5-1.1.x86_64.rpm

I usually force the install of the Canon drivers, manually add the ppd file(s) through Yast. Canon driver packages are a true disaster. The dep conflicts, hundreds of versions on hundreds of locations, brrrr. IME the dep conflicts are mostly about the Canon software that comes with the installer. PPD’s are installed to /opt/somefolder

Thank you for the warning. I’ve added the Gutenprint 8200 driver to Cups.
It’s okay. Nevertheless I’ll try and test the original one from Canon.

I’ve been using the Canon provided drivers for my printer also. If it is older than a year or so be sure to add the 32-bit compatibility versions of these libraries also or the driver installer won’t work.
