Just installed soundconverter (so I can get rid of some mp3 files, changing them to ogg ;)). However, when I try to run it in OpenSUSE 11.2, inside a terminal, it gives me the following output:
soundconverter
SoundConverter 1.4.4
/usr/bin/python: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib64/python2.6/site-packages/gst-0.10/gst/interfaces.so: undefined symbol: gst_stream_volume_format_get_type
And the app doesn’t show up :’(. What am I supposed to do? Thanks in advance.
Already fixed it up! Just installed python-32bit and python-devel, accepted all the changes needed, and it’s there! Finally getting rid of mp3 on OpenSUSE. I’m starting to like it! rotfl!
Just a word of caution, when you convert from a lossy audio format to a lossy audio format (like mp3 and ogg) there is a noticeable loss in sound quality, but then noticeable varies widely in different scenarios and depends largely on the headphones used, if the person has sensitive/trained ears and if this person cares altogether. If you’re not much of an audiophile, then I guess it’d be fine for you.
The best thing to do is to convert from a lossless (such as flac, or the media it came on) to a lossy, but I’m willing to bet you don’t have the original CD’s to do that. Can’t say I have em either.
