Problem burning CD and DVD with K3B

I am having problems burning CD and DVD with K3B and Nero, with nero it close just after the burning process has started, and k3b stops at the 50 % of the process, note that I don’t have an internet connection in this PC, the only changes that I have made to this system is the installation of VLC 1.0 and the removal of a 250 GB IDE Hard drive, after trying to burn a cd or DVD KDE crash constantly with a kio_media_mounthelper failure.

this is the output for K3B:

I believe that it is a mounting/unmounting problem, if I reboot the pc I am able to burn a cd, but if I try to burn another cd without rebooting I get the error, I have to reboot to be able to burn a cd or DVD, konkeror and even the command line output errors.

Can you post the content of /etc/fstab as well ?

I have deleted the last entry and the problem still persist, now other applications like vlc, kaffeine and mplayer crash too after trying to burn a cd, I have also reinstalled k3b and nero and also deleted the .nero folder in home.

The burner is new, before I had an IDE and now it is a SATA but it was burning fine.

Post the result of this:

rpm -qi k3b k3b-codecs

It seems that it was a memory problem, yesterday I was unable to use the pc, everything crashed, I wasn`t able to do a backup or even boot from the live dvd, so I reseated the memory and now the problem is gone, the only problem that I have with k3b now is that it is not verifying the compilations, but is burning fine, when I check the option to verify it stays at the 50 % and eject the disk when the burning session ends buy it does not verify the compilation.

I think a couple of us were thinking along memory (swap) because you had mentioned removing a drive.
But happy it’s basically ok. I never use the verify myself.

I think a couple of us were thinking along memory (swap) because you had mentioned removing a drive.

you say in the case that the swap was in the removed drive?

I was wondering that and @Knurpht was I think having similar thoughts, that’s why we wanted to see fstab also. Just because fdisk shows a swap doesn’t mean it’s configured to use that in fstab.

Looks like it’s sorted then. To make k3b start with completely new settings, just to avoid that there’s still something rotten in there, as a user do this in a terminal window:
rm -rf ~/.kde4/share/apps/k3b
rm -rf ~/.kde/share/apps/k3b
rm ~/.kde4/share/config/k3b*
rm ~/.kde/share/config/k3b*
These commands will remove all settings for any k3b-version, so don’t bother if it says ‘file not found’.

I did a fresh install and the problem still persist, k3b does not verify the compilations, I will try deleting those file to see what happens.

A number of us had problems in 11.1 with permissions with CD/DVD devices, and a work around was to add our regular users to group disk and group cdrom. But I don’t think that applies to you. This is puzzling.

that is the first thing I do after installing, Nero is burning fine, k3b burns fine the CD, the only thing is that it does not check the compilations; I dont know what could be the problem, If I dont check the verify option it ends fine 100 %, instead of 50 % when the option is selected.

So don’t use it, I never do. never have any problems.

I had the same problem,I did find a partial solution,

Open K3B -->Settings → Configure K3b…
Click the Advanced setting
Find the setting labeled “Do not eject medium after write process”
Click it, Click apply, Click OK.
K3b should verify CD’s But maybe not DVD,s
Don’t know what fixes it for DVD’s…

Last i used k3b verify was a runtime choice. I always select it for
important to me, CD/DVD recordings.

Hi

I have the same problem in 11.1 but works fine in 10.2?

Personally I like to verify the DVD.

Any fixes found?

Thanks
