Hi, I had some really stubborn issues with Yabridge & Wine, Most of which seem exclusive to OpenSuse. It doesn’t help that there’s no walkthroughs on the Yabridge GitHub.
Mainly GUI issues with wine - New ones coming from installers that have worked OOTB on pretty much every other distro.
I finally managed to work around a lot of it by using bottles to install my commercial plugins, Wine 9.21 staging for Yabridge , and Flatseal to allow bottles to write to user directories.
I still kind of have Plugins that can’t see their Authorisation or Library paths in their Bottle but I managed to manually change paths and now everything is working - whoop!
I’m no coder and I don’t really understand Linux fully (about 1 year of experience in total) but given that Yabridge and Wine 9.21 are in the repos, I presume there should be a simpler way to get around all of these hurdles that I’ve missed.
(I have the pro audio repo).
I really Like Tumbleweed now that I’ve given it a chance. The YaST/ Merlin tools are just fantastic and make life in Linux so much more accessible to me - Thank you to the devs!!
Also worth noting is that my plugins are working seemlessly and my system feels more polished and stable that any other distro I’ve used. Kudos
So my questions, really, are: What’s the consensus on using yabridge & wine? Should I even have wine if my plugins are in bottles? Does anyone have experience around here or can you recommend other forums?
Thank you!!!
