prints mirror image or top 1/2 inch of page missing

I have two different ways to print to my HPOfficejet Pro 8500. They look like two different printers to the software.

When I attempt to print a PDF file one of these prints a mirror image; the other cuts approximately 1/2 inch from the top of the page.

OpenOffice.org files appear to print without problems.

I have openSUSE 11.2 and HPLIP 3.9.8

That doesn’t look OK, one printer, showing up as two…I’d remove them both and let Yast or HP detect it again.

Thanks for the suggestion.

OK. I deleted both using CUPS. Then I used CUPS to reinstall. CUPS gives three choices of driver.

HP Officejet Pro 8500 a909a (en)
HP Officejet Pro 8500 a909a hpijs 3.9.8.36 (en)
HP Officejet Pro 8500 a909a, hpcups 3.9.8 (en)

the hpcups driver won’t even print a test page.
The other two print a test page that is shifted down slightly.
They both print PDF files with the top .2 cm missing.

Update:

According to CUPS the printer driver is

HP OfficejetPro 8500 a909a, hpcups 3.9.12

This must have come from installing the latest hplip.

Attempts to try other drivers from CUPS don’t change the driver.
