A few weeks ago, we reported on the news that a programmer was nearing completion on a Linux port of 3D Realms’ popular title Prey. Ryan “icculus” Gordon was working to push out the full retail version of the game’s binaries. After months of work, he has finally succeeded in bringing the full version of the game to the Linux platform.
Woaaahh no one has even commented on this?!? I posted this yesterday and it only got 19 views? Unbelievable! Most if not all Linux users whine about no good quality games for Linux, but when a guy ports a game such as Prey which was a bit hit on Windows, no one from the Linux “gamers” gives a ****? Nice! a bunch of hypocrites
I doesn’t work with the CD-key I got when I downloaded the game from steam. It installed fine, but it’s missing some characters so I can’t actually play it.
Edit: I needed to copy the preykey file to ~/.prey/base not ~/prey/base

The game sub-forum might have been a better section to get more
views/input on Prey.
I did not even know that such a forum existed here. I only looked at the main forums. I’m not very active here anyways, that’s why I didn’t know its existence
EDIT: can someone move this thread to the Games sub-forum? thx
Oh! You should be blessed for this comment Actually, I bought game on Steam as well and Linux client asked for two more digits… I myself even fired a bug-report in Icculus Bugzilla. +1 man!
Has anyone managed to install Prey using the DVD ?
I have tried many times and the installer keeps asking “Please insert Prey Disc 1”. I’ve tried ejecting the DVD and remounting, I’ve also tried another DVD drive and I can’t get past “Please insert Prey Disc 1”.
It would have been a better option to provide the game as a download like the demo, all you would have to do is install and register using the DVD key. A flaky installer is a bit disappointing.
This was a welcome bit of news for me to find here. Been using 11.4 for a few weeks now and booting into XP to play a couple of different games. Prey was one of them.
I bought this game a while back after it had made it to the Half-Price Books store. Prey is a lot of fun and a bit different than most FPS games (that I have seen). I love the Coast 2 Coast AM clips with Art Bell. Awesome.
The game is running well and smooth. One less reason to have to reboot.
