PLEASE HELP Tumbleweed update broke sudo/desktop on kernel 7.2.7/7.2.8, old kernel worked, BLS entry disappeared

TLDR: Im on a time deadline to get my laptop working since i have a event tomorrow, but i stupidly somehow bricked my system, tried fixing things with AI and it didnt work, here is pretty much a summary of everything

Hi, I’m trying to recover my openSUSE Tumbleweed laptop after a `zypper dup` and I’d appreciate some advice before I make things worse.

## System setup

openSUSE Tumbleweed
Bootloader: grub2-bls
Root filesystem: Btrfs + Snapper
ESP: /dev/nvme0n1p1, 260 MiB FAT32
Root: /dev/nvme0n1p2, ~475 GiB Btrfs
Swap: /dev/nvme0n1p3, 2 GiB

My partition layout is basically:

nvme0n1
├─nvme0n1p1 260M vfat FAT32 /boot/efi
├─nvme0n1p2 474.7G btrfs /
└─nvme0n1p3 2G swap

Initial problem

The issue started after a zypper dup .

During that update I had some dependency problems involving VLC/Packman packages and accepted a solution that removed a few VLC-related packages.

After rebooting into:

7.2.7-1-default

the system behaved very strangely.

  • sudo did not work properly / appeared to hang
  • sudo -v would not behave normally
  • snapper list would hang
  • KDE Plasma was partially broken
  • The taskbar/panel was not working properly
  • Ctrl+Alt+F3 would not open a usable TTY

I then booted through GRUB into Snapper snapshot 231 .

snapshot 231 + kernel 7.2.7 = broken
snapshot 231 + kernel 7.1.8 = works

with snapshot snapshot 231 + kernel 7.1.8 everything worked fine so i did a rollback, and waited a couple of days, then tried to setup my grub config to have the snapshots be safe, but since for some reason the efi partition default is 256 i barely had space for 3 snapshots, then i waited some days and did another dup thinking everything was gonna work fine, i added manually the snapshot that worked

sudo sdbootutil add-kernel 7.1.8-1-default

, so i had

+system-opensuse-tumbleweed-7.2.8-1-default-233.conf
-system-opensuse-tumbleweed-7.1.8-1-default-233.conf
snapper-opensuse-tumbleweed-7.2.8-1-default-235.conf

but for some reason after i booted into 233 7.2.8-1 and it was still broken, when i rebooted again, the entry dissapeared, and im all out of ideas now, chatgpt is saying something about using a usb drive to do something, but im wondering if i can even fix this or i just bite the bullet and full wipe/reinstall my system.

ANY help ill gladly apreaciate,

things that are wrong were:
desktop didnt load
taskbar didnt have anymations nor loaded properly
sudo hangs
su -v also hangs after it ask me for the pasword while sudo doesnt ask
cant open anything from taskbar
browsers wont load
taskbar freezes
and cant open TTY with ctrl+alt+F3, when i do that it freezes the screen or gives me a black screen with just a blinking _

Using “grub2-bls”, your EFI partition is too small. What probably happened, was that the “initrd” for the new kernel was not generated because of insufficient space in your EFI partition.
