Please help. I am lost. NVIDIA not loaded on Lenovo Legion Y740-15ICHg with intel graphics

Hi all, this is my first time posting because I am lost as to what to do. My laptop has RT2060 mobile. Process: I installed NVIDIA driver as follows:

zypper inr
zypper in nvidia-driver-G06-kmp-default
update-bootloader --del-option nomodeset
update-bootloader

It worked after reboot but afterwards NVIDIA driver is no longer loaded. Here is my inxi -GSaz:

Sadly, still the same - no device found and NVIDIA driver is not loaded. This is a long bow - is this due to nouveau?

As you can see in the inxi output, nouveau is blacklisted. See kernel command line.

Understand. I don’t know what to do now. Downgrade the driver version?

@BLP Hi and welcome to the Forum
I have a Turing GPU setup as primary graphics, the Intel device changes to a Display Controller in the Dell XE3 if using a discrete GPU, so it should all be working for you…

Your running Plasma as well as X11, is there a reason for this?

@BLP Did you also run zypper inr as well?

@BLP Oh, I see you did… Is your user in the video and renderer groups?

@malcolmlewis - Leap booted me into X11 do I change to Wayland? as to my user I confirm that the user is in video and render group as shown below:

blp : blp wheel render video

Sadly after a reboot, NVIDIA is still not loaded and nvidia-smi still says “no device found”. Do I reinstall everything? If so, what are the exact steps or what are my options?

Thank you for the help and I look forward to your guidance. Thank you.

@malcolmlewis Earlier, I enabled secure boot and booted to Leap. It did not ask me to enrol NVIDIA cert and when I run nvidia-smi I got this message:

NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn't communicate with the NVIDIA driver. Make sure that the latest NVIDIA driver is installed and running.

Any ideas how to resolve? Or anyone has any idea? Thank you.

Try running an app like glxinfo using
__NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia glxinfo | grep OpenGL
If it works and shows OpenGL vendor: NVIDIA Corporation, it confirms that the NVIDIA GPU is functional and PRIME Render Offload is working.

See here regarding enrolling MOK key…
https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:NVIDIA_drivers#Secureboot

Sorry. I run the command in the terminal and I got this:

 __NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia glxinfo | grep OpenGL
X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 152 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 24 (X_GLXCreateNewContext)
  Value in failed request: 0x0
Serial number of failed request: 67
Current serial number in output stream: 68

Sorry, what exactly is the command?

Fix the Secure Boot issue first (MOK enrollment) so that the NVIDIA driver loads.

Sorry for being a hassle but I have been tinkering with this issue that I worry I will mess it up again. I found this command to force enrolment:

okutil --import /usr/share/nvidia-pubkeys/MOK-nvidia-driver-G0<X>-<driver_version>-<kernel_flavor>.der --root-pw

Where do I get my driver version and kernel flavor? Sorry but I am just being careful given the time I spent to fix the issue by myself which sadly did not bear any fruit. Thank you.

Use the bash-completion.

mokutil --import /usr/share/nvidia-pubkeys/

now use the TAB key once:

mokutil --import /usr/share/nvidia-pubkeys/MOK-nvidia-driver-G06-580.

Now use the TAB key twice as same a doubleklick on the mouse: TAB TAB

mokutil --import /usr/share/nvidia-pubkeys/MOK-nvidia-driver-G06-580.
MOK-nvidia-driver-G06-580.105.08-lp156.44.1-default.der MOK-nvidia-driver-G06-580.119.02-lp160.43.1-default.der MOK-nvidia-driver-G06-580.95.05-lp156.40.2-default.der
MOK-nvidia-driver-G06-580.105.08-lp160.44.1-default.der MOK-nvidia-driver-G06-580.126.09-lp160.44.1-default.der MOK-nvidia-driver-G06-580.95.05-lp156.41.2-default.der

Thes are the available files with the beginning:

MOK-nvidia-driver-G06-580.

you have now to type in only the next letter(s) of the file you want to use:

mokutil --import /usr/share/nvidia-pubkeys/MOK-nvidia-driver-G06-580.1
MOK-nvidia-driver-G06-580.105.08-lp156.44.1-default.der MOK-nvidia-driver-G06-580.119.02-lp160.43.1-default.der
MOK-nvidia-driver-G06-580.105.08-lp160.44.1-default.der MOK-nvidia-driver-G06-580.126.09-lp160.44.1-default.der
linux64:/home/stephan # mokutil --import /usr/share/nvidia-pubkeys/MOK-nvidia-driver-G06-580.1

When I now type in the 2, the bash completion has not more some different files beginning with it, only one:

mokutil --import /usr/share/nvidia-pubkeys/MOK-nvidia-driver-G06-580.126.09-lp160.44.1-default.der

Now you can use Enter/Return to execute the command.

Thank you but I managed to enrol the cert when I rebooted via the blue screen. Sadly, the result remains the same “no device found”. :frowning:

@BLP What is the output from journalctl -b | grep drm
