does it have windows on it?
as it’s a new peace of software it mostlikely uses efi and secure boot.
you can probobly install openSUSE on it, but it’s a little more complex then it use to be.
If you have windows are you planning on keeping it?
you will have to do some tweaking in bios (not scary)
you need to provide some more info.
in the meantiime read some manuel’s https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:UEFI
i actually took out the initial disk mechanical disk with windows and installed a brand new sandisk ultra ssd (128gb) its empty.
iam trying to instal the live Gnome 64bit version from a usb stick.
what kinda of Bios tweaks should i do to be able to install it?
Thanks for the help
save settings and reboot, then press the same button again and select boot menu
here chose the usb drive (it might appear as a hard drive but it will show the manufacturer) and boot from it
when linux loads you’ll be able to install it to disk.
I’ve never installed from a live disk maybe someone else can help with that
You should be able to boot to EFI mode and install via EFI. Of course some BIOS insist on booting Windows have no idea if this is one of them. It certainly appears to be different as BIOS’s go. Note that if dual booting you should install all OS’s in the same mode ie either all EFI boot or all legacy boot. Mixing modes can lead to trouble
Hi
Use efi booting, you need to convert the new ssd to gpt format and then install from the DVD (not the live CD’s). You can boot from the live cd and use gdisk to convert it to gpt like;

Hi
That would be an issue with DVD media, how did you create the DVD, did
you check the md5sum of the download? Did you burn the DVD at the
slowest possible speed?

shity lenovo G50/70

Hi
Well that error indicates an issue with the dvd device or media.
Maybe it’s the media type not happy in the dvd device?
Try using a 8GB USB device?

my 3c’s.
Those Lenovo’s by default have only one usb2 drives, installing from a usb3 will fail, here’s a pdf from Lenovo about what to do to install 7 http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/hnt/lenovo_g40_30_g50_30_bsod_solution.pdf
when you tweak the bios select other OS, switch USB to 2.0,
are you shure that there is no secure boot option (there should be) from page 2 of the pdf:
If the BIOS version is lower than A7CN27WW, please update BIOs to 27 or above
Check your bios version that maybe your problem you might need to do a bios update, I’ve never updated Lenovo’s but usually it’s simple.
finally worked i think my main problem was the first dvd i burned…it seemd alright on my workstation but wasnt good for the laptop!
anyhow it worek…maybe also the bios tweeking helped, have to report tho that theres was no way to make the usb install work
but my system is up and running and im happy about it!
