Paint.NET is a pretty good graphics application, but running it via Mono has been tricky because of the Windows forms. Now they took it and removed Widnows forms for GTK making it run natively in Linux!
I look forward to trying it out tonight (or the next couple of nights).
Pinta, Simple Painting for GTK
Pinta is a drawing/editing program modeled after Paint.NET. It’s goal is to provide a simplified alternative to GIMP for casual users. It is currently early in development.
It’s only in version 0.1, but I hope it improves enough to be included in openSUSE Gnome, which seems to include most of the Mono-based apps by default.
It would take a lot, though, for it to usurp Gimp as the best image editor for Linux.
I installed it in Ubuntu, and its great. I mostly use Kolourpaint for some simple graphic stuffs. But this one has good new feature over Kolourpaint.
Next plan is to install it in openSUSE.
I disagree. It has Layers, Effects, much wider tools palette. It’s much more advanced than standard Paint. This kind of app should be replacement for GIMP.
I like MyPaint much more than Paint.NET. I even like it more than Gimp. I tried Gimp but never felt quite comfortable with it. MyPaint is more draw/paint oriented and works great with graphic tablets. And the brush, layer etc. windows aren’t annoying like gimp’s.
MyPaint looks interesting. I just wish my tablet was detected as a tablet (absolute positioning) as opposed to a mouse (relative positioning) which it is in all Linux distros I’ve tried so far.
