Packagekit error

Hello,

I get a “packagekit error” while using my pc.
“unexpected internal error”
“more details: http://packman.iu-bremen.de/suse/11.0: Can’t open /var/cache/zypp/solv/http:__packman.iu-bremen.de_suse_11.0/cookie”

What does it mean, please?

thanks

I suppose you do not get this error after half an hour of staring at the screen and not touching keyboard/mouse.

Do you mind telling us what you where trying to do and what you did (this is not the same). when the error was shown?

The problem with the software where these Forums run on is that it does not support web-cams nor crystal balls, thus we can not see what you are doing.

“packagekit” (or package kit) is a GNOME program that does something with updates. See: PackageKit - Main Page
In my openSuse11.3 the “Updater Applet” in the “Notification Area” of the panel starts (always in GNOME or by default in KDE) the packagekit or first the “package kit plugin”.
Documentation > Start-Up > Installation and Setup > Installing, Removing and Updating Software>Keeping the System Up-to-date (I. 3.3.) Novell Documentation
In a updated openSUSE 11.0 it may be not quite different although it may have been different when you installed 11.0.

So I guess something is wrong with one or more tools/programs of the package management in your system.
Package management/Tools - openSUSE

For example: After I had used SuSE’s graphic Software Manager in YaST (yast2) instead of the programs described above to do the last update of zypper the Update Applet still shows me that he wants me to do this update. But as I have done it already this cannot be done.

Have you done something about updating before (and if: to and with which program?)?
Have you activated automatic updating?
What version of “zypper” shows your “Software Manager” in YaST/is in your system installed?

Have you or your system updated or new installed something from the Packman repository before the error message?

Greetings
pistazienfresser

I get the message at system startup.
I effectively noticed that something goes wrong with updatings; seems that system is not able to download them anymore…
But how to fix this?
How can I investigate correctly that error?

Thanks

Like Henk said in a poetic way: we need info, details.

And be precise: this message cannot show on system startup. On startup of the software installer maybe.

Be clear about what you did, update or not etc.

if it was running when s/he shutdown, won’t it auto-run during
start-up (unless that option has been disabled)?

I got this notification after installing 11.2 at start-up. KPackagekit error. one after another going up the screen at the right. If you click one for details it says something about can’t connect through Dbus. I just shut off auto-update and do it manually which works without errors.

I switch on the PC and when start up is completed message appears. This is.
I don’t touch anything else. I don’t use any program and do any thing with my pc.

Found!

It starts from the updating applet (packagekit 0.2.1).

This means that what you call “starting the PC” you mean booting it and loging in. These are two seperate things even when you have automatic login switched on. And it is very usefull to tell those things. We can not look over your shoulder.

Now you found out that it comes when your updater applet starts looking for updates. You could of course switch off the applet, but the problem is still there and will emerge again when you try to use YaST > Software Management or zypper (or the applet). Can you post please the output of

zypper lr -d

If I go to online updatings, in Yast, I get some errors: cannot get the source list, or inizialization fails…
Automatic updatings are disabled.

Please post output hcvv asked for. This can be repaired, but we need the info.

You’re right of course, but I’m not so expert in using pc, so I apologize for this.

Thanks.

No need to apoligize, it is only that all of us use the same words for the same things, because else :wink:

And a new question is immediatly following: could you please post computer output betwee CODE tags and not QUOTE tags. That is the # above, right of the one you used. It will then preserve lay-out and not turn an eventual URL into a link, making it much better to understand.

Nevertheless I think I can tell from your listing that:
1 is 11.0 OSS, but Actualize (I thought it was called Refresh??) is switched off;
2 is 11.0 Update, again Refresh switched off;
3 is again 11.0 Update, switched on;
4 is **11.1 **OpenOfiice Stable;
5 is 11.0 Non-OSS, again Refresh switched off;
6 is 11.0 OpenOffice Stable
7 is 11.0 Packman

I uppose you can for yourself draw some conclusions::
a) Switch refresh on for everything you use.
b) Remove one of 2 or 3, this is double.
c) You have 11.0, thus OpenOffice for 11.1 should not be there, especialy as OpenOffice for 11.0 is also there. I guess even you do not know which packages from which of these is installed, let alone that the system can sort this out. Thus remove 4.

Thus can all be done using YaST > Software > Software repositories.

May be we should first see if you can reach this point without many problems. When you succeed, report back with a new

zypper lr -d

else report what problems you got.

here is the new report:

Thanks.

There are still twoi Update ones (2 and 3). Look at the URLs at the end, they are tyhe same. Remove one. Then you have five left. Those are the four we recommend here plus the OpenOffice one you apperently wish to have.

When that is done we could try if the following helps to remove your problem. As root

zypper ref

and when that does not give bad surprises

zypper dup

zypper ref

All repositories udpated.

Problem:MozillaFirefox-translations-3.0.18-0.1.i586 requires MozillaFirefox = 3.0.18, but is not possible to provide this request.
  provider not installable:MozillaFirefox-3.0.18-0.1.i586[http://download.opensuse.org/update/11.0]
Solution 1:following actions will be done:
  do not install MozillaFirefox-3.5.9-0.1.i586
  do not install mozilla-xulrunner190-1.9.0.19-0.1.i586
  do not install mozilla-xulrunner190-translations-1.9.0.19-0.1.i586
  do not install mozilla-xulrunner190-gnomevfs-1.9.0.19-0.1.i586
Solution 2:do not install MozillaFirefox-translations-3.0.18-0.1.i586
Solution 3:ignore some dependencies of MozillaFirefox-translations

Hm, I am not quite sure here. I would go for solution 2. We can try to remedy this later imho. It is only the translations and you canm manage with english for a while I think.

Try 2 and see if there is more. When there are a lot of these we have to do something different.

Done.
All goes well.
System updated, no more errors.

I thank you very very much for your kind support.

All the best.:slight_smile:

Concratulations and you are welcome.

Please take care of the repos you are going to use in the future. When in doubt ask here before you make a mess rotfl!
