Package Blacklist

My Apper shows updates for packages I have not installed. This is apparently a known bug: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=736088

The thing, it keeps coming and there is always one application which is out of date. Is there a way to blacklist it somehow?

Thanks!

Search for the elusive apper in the kickoff menu

Change it’s settings

Turning it off complete is one option, but I would truly prefer simply blocking certain packages, so that I can get notices of things that I do use.

I would think that if you have sufficient knowledge to make decisions about which packages should or should not be updated, you would know how to do this without asking.

If you lock packages as Protected Do Not Modify in Software Management, they’ll not be updated.

Hi,

I am slightly confused by your first statement but your suggestion did not help. Packages which are NOT installed still show up in the list of updates.
Since it’s a known bug, I guess I’ll just have to wait it out.

Thanks anyway!

My Apper shows updates for packages I have not installed

Those are not updates
They are brought in by either dependency, or more likely a change in other installed software that either requires or recommends those packages.

Strange, the known bug is titled:

Bug 736088 - Apper wants to ‘update’ non-installed package ‘kde3-kaffeine’

And my Apper says: 1 Updates and when I select ‘openSUSE 2011-30 kde3-kaffeine’ it says:

This update is important as it may solve critical problems.
This update fixes the following issue for kde3-kaffeine:
-731893: removed obsolete patch that prevented playing DVDs
For more information about bugs fixed by this update please visit these websites:

Repository: Updates-for-openSUSE-12.1-12.1-1.4

So, either I am confused or this is an encrypted message for which I do not have the decryption key

OK

I don’t use Apper. Neither it’s predecessors. It will break multimedia switches on Packman.

I did just launch it. It was offering one update for a gstreamer-0_10-fluendo-mp3 pullin from opensuse.

I already have gstreamer-0_10-fluendo-mp3 from packman.

Personally, I recommend you don’t use apper.

Clear as water. Apper is buggy. Do not listen to it.

All right, I wont user Apper… What should I use instead? I am running OpenSUSE 12.1 64-bit with KDE presently.

Sorry, I know this is very basic but I went from Gnome to KDE two weeks ago and so I lost my usual interface for seeing software updates.
I even posted another thread about being lost with KDE and people found me some other apps I needed. I just didn’t think that there could
be another interface to the the updates. Honestly, I really liked much better the Gnome Software Management UI.

Thanks!

Just do this

Assuming you have the switch on Packman applied as per the multimedia guide.
This will keep you updated
Just do it once a week

YaST. Module package management. Or zypper.
