owner and group of /srv/www/htdocs and /srv/www/htdocs/nextcloud

Hi.
I had a nextcloud server running at /srv/www/htdocs/nextcloud. It crashed at an upgrade and stop working. I have managed to make it work… almost. Some things does not work properly, other do. During the recover I saw the owner.group of /srv/www/htdocs/nextcloud was root.root and I read somewhere (don’t remember where, sorry) It must be the user and group of the apache process, so I changed it to wwwrun.www. I’m trying to fix it all and I was wondering if I have owner.group of all /srv/www badly set (is root.root) so searching I found here that they must be root.root. Then they must be root.root everywhere, including /srv/www/htdocs/nextcloud?

From my working Nextcloud install ( passes their online security test ):
/srv/www/htdocs should all be root:root
in there the nextcloud folder and everything in it should be wwwrun;www

But, how did you update/upgrade your nextcloud?

I logged in nextcloud as adminstrator and the an alert appeared “new version, upgrade?” and I clicked… I think it was an error and the upgrade should have been done from the repos. Then it began upgrading and in the middle of it it crashed.
Then I reinstalled nextcloud from the repos and then I have been checking databases, the config file, etc. Most of it works fine, except in the administrator login the +apps does nothing

I have tried the maintenance mode, upgrading all apps, I have done occ maintenance:repair, but it still does not work.

I have just changed /srv/www/htdocs/nextcloud owner to root.root and run

# service apache2 restart

And then I try to log in nexcloud and I get this error

Please read my previous post, the nextcloud folder and it’s content should be wwwrun:www.

Did you clear the browser cache? Logout/login ? Specially the cache.

yes, sorry I misread something. I tested changing to root.root, it dindn¡t work, chaged back to wwwrun.www it works like before, but like before the +app in the administrator menu does not work.

Still not clear to me if you cleaned your browser cache, in ~/.cache

Do you see this in some other browser?

I have log out and log in, restarted apache, clear the browser cache for the site and tried with another browser, The same.

Did you you use the ‘-R’ option when chowning the nextcloud folder? i.e.


sudo chown wwwrun:www /srv/www/htdocs/nextcloud -R

Also, did you check the Settings - Overview part for messages?

And last, did you check the log ?

yes, I did.

And last, did you check the log ?

In loglevel 2 I log in as adminstrator, I click admin +apps (none show), I click admin users (and none show either) … and nothing in the log.
In loglevel 1 the same… nothing in the log.
In loglevel 0

I had also colllabra working and it is not working.
I wonder if maybe will be better a basckup of user data (is it possible to back up user configurations, user docuymnets, calendar, etc. and restore in a new nextcloud? ) and install it from scratch again
