opqnsuse 15.3, repo-backports-update is empty at opensuse mirrors

https://download.opensuse.org/update/leap/15.3/backports/ has data, but its mirrors, from the list at https://mirrors.opensuse.org/list/15.3.html, are empty. E.g., https://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/update/leap/15.3/backports/ is empty. Why is it so?

Checking here, I do see entries, and I have three packages installed from there.

I guess it depends on which mirror we are redirected to. Wait an hour or two and see if the problem clears up.

An additional comment.

That you cannot see anything with a web browser might not mean much. The important question is whether you can see packages with Yast Software Management (or with zypper and other tools).

Tried in yast to change the backports repository url to: http://ftp.byfly.by/pub/opensuse/update/leap/15.3/backports/, Index of /opensuse/update/leap/15.3/backports/, Index of /opensuse/opensuse/update/leap/15.3/backports/, no good. Yast cannot add repostory, if there is no data in it. Browsed the similar urls from some 20 other mirrors, no data in …/backports

I found out the problem 2 days ago.

It looks as if the “mirror” you attempted to use is not actually a valid mirror.

The list of mirrors that you used appears to be a list of openSUSE mirrors. But the backports repos are really SUSE repos rather than openSUSE mirrors. So I don’t think that’s a valid way if finding the mirrors that you need.

Well, I have found out the backports repository mirrors: http://download.opensuse.org/update/leap/15.3/backports/openSUSE:Backports:SLE-15-SP3:Update.repo.mirrorlist, there are 6 mirrors. So the backports repository is sync’ed to opensuse mirrors, but to a restricted set of sites. For example, oss updates: https://download.opensuse.org/update/leap/15.3/oss/openSUSE:Leap:15.3:Update.repo.mirrorlist : are mirrored to a hundred of sites. I wonder why is it so, but the problem is not critical for me.

Well, we run the mirror https://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse and our backports directory is also empty. We rsync from stage.opensuse.org (but the alternative rsync.opensuse.org is the same), where the directory is empty. I already mailed to admin@opensuse.org last week, but nothing happened until now…
