OpenSUSE Leap, Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3, FX-9590 IOMMU

Hello

My Gigabyte/FX-9590/openSUSE Leap cocktail is causing some severe headaches :frowning:

As numerous users have reported there is an issue with default BIOS settings which leads to various variants over non-functioning USB-devices and network.
I can confirm that booting after enabling iommu using kernel parameter “iommu=soft” makes USB keyboard and mouse work. Hovever, there seems to be a problem with networking.
Specifically, I am unable to connect to my LAN using the onboard net adapter. However, a PCI NIC (Intel Pro/1000 GT) works (both with static IP adress and using DHCP)
But my problem is that I need 2 NICs on the system and no matter which combination of another PCIe NIC or onboard LAN I can’t get the second NIC to work. Have tried both with static IP and DHCP to no avail.
Seems that there are some BIOS related issues. Seems also to be a possible way out (at least in part) using appropriate kernel parameters.

Has anybody successfully connected 2 network adapters using this MB/CPU/OS combination? Or perhaps an earlier version of openSUSE?

Best regards
Jens

Most Motherboard (non-laptop) with on-board LAN interfaces I know, offer at least one BIOS/UEFI setting to enable/disable/configure the on-board LAN interface. It is possible that, the “default” BIOS/UEFI setting disables the on-board LAN interface. >:)
