Tried to install opensuse leap 16 not beta but the new leap 16 released today
but it cannot start.
@anton which installer? Nvidia GPU?
Just passing by, as I was looking for an announcement that Leap 16 is now “released” . . . .
But, did you shut down the machine after the install?? Usually seems like the installer just wants a restart, but in my case over the years shutting down and cold boot often is better??
What is “it”? Installer? Installed system?
The installer start but hangs on this screen. Never had a problem with installing opensuse leap. Till now
I am trying to install opensuse leap 16.
@anton WHICH Installer, there is the offline or online one? What is the GPU inuse?
I have the offline amd 64 image on a usb stick but this is the screen as show in my first notice. The install does not go further.
OK, so this is an “installer not starting” problem, not a “system has been installed and won’t start” problem???
Did you do a checksum on the iso file??
How did you dump the ISO to the pendrive? Is Ventoy involved in any way?
And you did not answer Malcolms question regarding the GPU.
Does your CPU fullfill the CPU microarchitecture requirements for Leap 16?
I am dutch for me there is a install problem because there was no graphical install.
I have done a checksum on the iso file.
Do you try to install with nomodeset?
I have no idea what you mean.
It just a normal install. Offline by usb
O nomode in grub ediit .
Will try dat
Will try nomode
The opensuse leap 16 install is not user friendly sorry.
Are you asking this question about Ventoy, because it might be a source of the installer problem, OR because it is the cloner of choice and should be used??
@anton try with nomodeset. The same problem I had with GTX1060 GPU…
Remember after the installation completed , remove the nomodeset from GRUB and re-patch it.
After that you will need manually install each Nvidia driver rpm packet, as it is not auto-detect the GPU, like on Leap 15.6 did.
Thanks for the link. I personally don’t use Ventoy but a buddy of mine recently was suggesting it as being “highly regarded.” I use “mkusb” which has been consistently good . . . . I think way back when I tried Unetbootin in Mac, but it didn’t seem to work at the time.
Back to the OPs issue, is there not a problem with either the installer OR the cloned USB such that it is not reaching the GUI installer?? He is not able to even start the installation, let alone the installer, hanging in the single user phase?? Would “nomodeset” even be applicable?? Or we are just not seeing all of the steps he is going through to get to the photo he posted where it just stalls???
