Hello everyone.
I still have a Leap 15.6 Xfce installation. The hardware is old but everything runs fine. But in Xfce I have never been able to get the system sounds to work. I got used to having the sounds at input and startup. Even a Linux Mint 22 Xfce, which I use occasionally in vm, has the same problems in addition to having xfce/btrfs incompatibility.
The audio in youtube and videos works perfectly in all Xfce OS…
Is there a solution or is this aspect insurmountable. I remember that I am a noob!
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
What type of sound card do you have? You can find with this command:
sudo lspci | grep "Audio device"
Hi @ovidiu
mauro@00-16-EA-45-09-2C:~> sudo lspci | grep “Audio device”
[sudo] password di root:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03)
Thanks
It’s a common sound card, it shouldn’t have any problems.
Have you installed the codecs?

Hi @ovidiu .
I installed all codecs from packman. The audio of the videos works fine, as well as the audio of my bluetooth earphones.
I enabled system sounds in Xfce and… I have no system sound.
Ok, so you have problems with xfce system sounds? In rest everything is working fine?
If is so is a problem of XFCE, is not related to any distro.
Yes.
Everything works well. In fact, the system sounds even in MINT 22 work very well in Cinnamon but no sound in XFCE. I both tested in my laptop …
It is certainly a problem with XFCE.
I am using also XFCE, I have in mind to set also some system sounds but I never done it. For example I have same problem switching monitors in Void and OpenSuse. First I thought is a distro setting but is not. Is a XFCE problem. Look on XFCE forums.
Hi,
Yep it’s an xfce problem. There is a long old thread regarding system sound in the
xfce forum and in that said thread were tips of how to make some system sounds work.
Here some sound work sometimes using the ocean sound theme in tumbleweed.
My login sound is a plasma login sound that I put in the autostart application so at least
I can hear a sound as soon as I login
HI. Thanks for your feedback
