i want to say ‘Job well done’ to the OpenSuse crew.
At BEL Project ( Business Edition Linux) our goal is to help small business and school users adopt Linux to be more productive.
We ‘officially support’ 5 distros currently that we believe represent the best of Linux for specific uses and just in general.
OpenSuse is our choice as a top notch business workstation/desktop. Because it is Linux, it can make a dandy server as well and YAST helps to make many of those functions very manageable. (The fact that YAST runs in text mode as ncurses is truly terrific.)
Our team members often browse the ‘supported’ distro forums, always on the lookout for tips and fixes for each distro as well as good ideas in general. Don’t be surprised to see one of us in here looking for information to solve one of our small business/school users issues.
Also, if anyone in here is interested in learning more about working with and supporting Linux for small business and schools, BEL Project is always open to bringing on new team members to make our forums, wiki and irc channel the best they can be.
Thanks again for being, in our eyes, one of the best Linux has to offer.
What distros you support by the way?
As I would say the leaders are Debian/Ubuntu, Slackware, RedHat, Mandriva and Suse as most distros are spawned from them.
Arch might be on that list in the near future too
BEL Project supports all of Linux, but specifically, OpenSuse, CentOS, Debian, Ubuntu/Server and PCLinuxOS.
We find that each of these distros really fits certain niches as related to small business and school adoption bets. Every Linux distro can be all purpose, but each these distros has areas where it really shines.
I have seen this mentioned here and there before, but didn’t get to check it out.
While our team members will definitely explore this, I would still like to encourage others to send us their ISO’s as well.
Who knows what type of business one person customizes for that may be in that will be a great fit for someone else.
BEL Project has a new domain name and a new homepage.
The BEL Project Monthly newsletter will now be available at the end of each month.
If you know of a local school, non-profit or small business that could benefit from adopting Linux and OpenSource, We will be glad to help them get started at BEL Project.
