OpenSUSE Installation Problems

Hi All,
I am a new guy to this forum. Please help me to resolve one issue i am facing.

I have vista installed in my Laptop(Lenovo Ideapad Y430).

I am trying to install opensuse11.0 in that. While installing, it is installing properly initially then in restarts machine giving option :

  1. OpenSUSE 11.0
  2. OpenSUSE Rescue…
  3. Windows

I am selecting 1st one. It is opening by showing configuring…
Then my laptop screen goes blank… for ever.

Please suggest if OpenSUSE11.0 supports LenovoY430 or not.
If yes where I am going wrong.
Please suggest …

What you quote does not seem quite normal in the menu at number 2 I would expect to see failsafe - not rescue.
At the boot menu when you select 1. Open Suse11
Pause the timer by moving the down arrow
then move back to number 1.
clear all boot arguments by holding down backspace and type: vesa
hit enter
see if that will work

tell us if windows works ok too?

Yes you are right .
2nd option is failsafe.

Answering to your question :

Vista works properly.

Did you try

clear all boot arguments by holding down backspace and type: vesa
hit enter

Also try failsafe. See if it brings you to a login prompt
login with user name and pass

then try
startx

Hi,
I will try this. I was also checking in the Hardware list of openSUSE in the below link.
HCL/Laptops/IBM - openSUSE

I was not able to find Lenovo Y430 there.

I will try as suggested by you and will let you know.

FYI the link you are reading is good but incomplete. Because it relies on users adding to it and unfortunately some just don’t take the time.

I did add my Lenovo to the list.

Hi,
I have tried as you suggested. But ended up with the same result.

Let me put the issue more clearly.
When starting , everything is going with the checking [done]…

When the option
“Starting HAL daemon” is coming…
Screen is going blank for ever…Even I am waiting more than 15minutes…
Then manually I need to switch off my Laptop…
Please suggest …

In addition to the previous note :

I am installing following the below link :

Installation/11.0 DVD Install - openSUSE

==> After the installation is complete, the computer is rebooting for automatic Configuration

Then the system is going blank showing :

“Starting HAL daemon”

HAL basically looks after all your devices PCI, USB etc

During install de-select automatic configuration and you will have opportunity to do it during install, it may help you get past the problem. Make sure you don’t have any unusual devices connected

During install I de-selected automatic configuration. Still the result is same.

I think it is not supporting openSUSE11.0 …
I don’t know?

What should I do now ???

Have you tried the live cd?

Yes I tried . But that is also not working …

What to do >:(

>:(

I am clueless…

as you were doing here: OpenSUSE Installation Problems - openSUSE Forums

Try the kernel argument

acpi=off
