Hi
You mean kernel modules? If so you would need to rebuild the src rpms
to match the running kernel, unless the modules are already there.
Can you provide some examples?

SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11 (x86_64) Kernel 2.6.32.24-0.2-default

GPU GeForce 8600 GTS Silent - Driver Version: 260.19.21
These are RPMs compiled for i386, source is not available. These includes drivers for Synaptic touch pad, ATI Mobility Radeon video card and so on.
I’ve tried to install them on Fedora 13 64-bit. Installation with rpm was successful, but drivers didn’t worked.
Hi
But you need to install the ones for the distribution your using. I’m sure Fedora have their own pre-built ones to install.
Not quite. These drivers are provided by manufacturer. They are for a HP Laptop. See: HP ProBook 4520s Notebook PC: Download drivers and software There are compiled RPMs for SLED 11 SP1 there.
Hi
For openSUSE you can use the corresponding ones, then using the openSUSE src rpm’s you could modify the src rpms and rebuild for Fedora. Fedora should have versions that work though. Just ask HP to provide you the src rpms?
I’m not going to tinker with Fedora anymore. It has problems with drivers and software updates.
For openSUSE you can use the corresponding ones
Whether it means that openSuSE and SLED drivers are compatible? Is it OK to use i386 drivers on 64-bit version of OS?
No. As well as for the first question. A driver is installed to the running kernel. If that kernel is not exactly the same, the rpm may install, but the driver will not work. HP may provide them for SLED/SLES users, but these precompiled drivers will not work on openSUSE. Sheer luck if they do.
Thanks, Knurpht! Negative result is also a result! I’ll go for SLED…
Thread resolved.
