I have followed Multimedia codecs (h264 etc.) for fresh Leap 15.6 both yast and zypper
I have tried on a real machine (i5 NUC) and on a VirtualBox VM (more than once)
In each case behaviour is identical: audio + flashing VLC logo.
I also tried flv and mpg but are the same.
There are google reports of minor things when watching video or solved:use packman
What can be my problem?
Please confirm you performed the vendor switch to Packman for vlc.
Which vlc packages did you install? For example, in addition to vlc from Packman, I also have:
- vlc-codec-fluidsynth
- vlc-codec-gstreamer
- vlc-codecs
Plus some other vlc related apps which are likely not related to your issue.
I don’t have any Packman repository used. I have installed this:
sudo zypper in gstreamer-plugins-good-extra gstreamer-plugins-libav gstreamer-plugins-ugly gstreamer-plugins-vaapi
mp4 and mkv can be played, I don’t know about other formats, yet. But it seems to me that it works without Packman only if you have an Intel Processor. On my AMD Ryzen 5 3000 something, doesn’t work. I need the packages from packman. But if you have an Intel CPU and maybe an integrated GPU then it works. It seems those 2 packages are doing the job:
intel-vaapi-driver
intel-media-driver
I found this intel packages installed after I instaled vlc + packages from above.
Steps to replicate?
We don’t use the “native” (15.6) install of VLC - we use Discover to install the Flatpak of VLC. No issues with .mp4 and others.
