I was able to setup this printer. I’ve not tried to get the scanner to work.
yast->printer->add->find more->
setup for epson et-2850
I was able to print, but with very limited options. I tried to use the linux drivers on the epson website, but they won’t work.
Note, I wasn’t aware of opensuse leap 15.5 being out. So, I’ve not updated yet.
I need another option that gives me full access to all the printers features.
Also, aligning the printer is problematic through the printer display. The aligning sheets icons are so tiny. I can barely make out which is the best one on all the alignment sheets.
Thanks…
Hello,
is it ET-3850 as in the title of this thread or ET-2850 as in your description of setting it up?
For the ET-3850 Epson is offering a Linux driver and a Printer Utility software on their homepage: EPSON Download Center
When you click on download you can also open the manual which explains how to install it (with rpm -i) and how to set up the printer.
Searching this for linux drivers doesn’t work. Originally, I searched for:
linux printer driver et-3850
https://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/search/01/search/?OSC=LX
https://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/search/01/search/searchModule
Click on printer driver - click accept - more information.

Package download page link

Download opensuse x64 version. Click on file. Discover link install.
Install gives an error.
Did you try to install it via command line as described in the manual? What error did you get?
Have you also downloaded the Manual pdf from Epson?
I did something wrong, so i’ll try again later. I’m unable to travel, so it will another few days before I can access that desktop again. I’ll show it line by line.
Please note, 15.4 is an error. I use:
opensuse 15.5
[ rpm ]
Fedora
openSUSE
CentOS(Red Hat Enterprise Linux)
etc...
64bit(x86_64)
printer-escpr2-1.2.7-1.x86_64.rmp
escpr2_e.pdf
That is NOT an rpm file.
In addition, I have a long-term problem. Every time I use the search bar, I get internet bloat junk in the window. And, all my searches are broadcast out to the net! ARG! I’ve have tried everything. I’m now looking for a free firewall app that will block that. Just when I think I have it blocked, a new update restores it! (curse words) Wishing for some luck…

Indeed there seems to be a spelling error in the file ending.
Nevertheless I tried it and download and install went fine. rpm gives a warning in the installation process but still installed it.
The .ppd-files are in place.
Note: name of the folder as described in the installation manual is spelled “EPSON” whereas in reality it’s “Epson”. So in your case the ppd should be found there: /opt/epson-inkjet-printer-escpr2/ppds/Epson/Epson-ET-3850_Series-epson-inkjet-printer-escpr2.ppd.gz
I don’t have an Epson printer, but judging by how it went until now I would say you should be able to get the printer running with that package.
Next thing to check after the printer is installed with cups would be the Epson Printer Utility.
?? What is the difference between the RPM and the PPD file?
The .rpm is the package and the .ppd-file is a driver file that is installed with the driver package and can be used by CUPS for the printer setup.
The commands to set it up with cups are described in the manual.
I download the printer driver and install manual. Renamed it to ‘rpm’.
zypper install filename
Yast–> printer–> search: et3850 → select printer → click ok
setup options → print test page duplex and single → click ok → yast menu
This worked!
I printed lots of single pages and duplex mode. I did black/white and color. Everything worked, after learning how to do all that. All that printing only lower the blank ink level a small amount.
Thanks to all…
Next, the scanner driver didn’t work, but that’s another topic.

Good that it works now. If you need more options and settings the Epson printer utility might be worth a glance.
For my Canon printer/scanner I used a proprietary software for quite a while. In between I switched to simple scan as it works much better imho. So, I would recommend to look into simple scan. Should work with Epson as well. You just need to configure it.
Edit: Epson also has a scanner software: Linux Scanner Driver Download | Epson
Somehow if I click on the link for the manual it’s japanese, so here is the English manual: https://download.ebz.epson.net/man/linux/epsonscan2_e.html#sec5-1
Topic Closed, please take this to the new one.
Note, don’t respond to this… I will post this to a new topic. I need this to remember the details.
When printing with okular and a pdf document with forms, printing always prints in reverse order (1-6). So, I have the last page first on the stack.
When I print, I checkmark ‘print in reverse order’ to print in order. First Page at the top of the stack.
Last session, I did the checkmark and the pages came out last page on top of the stack.
Again, don’t respond. I need to verify the above again and here. I printed out a color DND character image. The edges were fine, but one boarder area had lighter and darker shades. It should have been even color shading.
The above two messages will post some other time.
Good that it works now. If you need more options and settings the Epson printer utility might be worth a glance.
Installing, the printer utility works. It only has two functions. ? Hmm…
