in the former OpenSuse versions I used the network manager for different WLAN networks and a cable LAN connection using a static IP (I’am using a laptop in different places). There was also a comfortable menu to configure all the different connections.
In 13.2. I can use WLAN connections, but I have no idea how to configure a cable connection with a static IP (and I need this cable connection at work) :(. When plugin the LAN cable, the network manager is searching for a dynamic DNS. I also find no menu to configure the network manager (Only the “old” Yast configuration, which makes no sense when always changing networks).
Is there a possibility to configure the new network manager (perhaps I was blind)?
If using KDE, you should have an icon in your system tray in any case (it might look a bit different than in 13.1 though).
If that icon is missing, you might have to enable it in the “System Tray Settings” (right-click on the small up-arrow that would show the hidden system tray icons)
thanks! I was blind. There is a very small configuration icon (spanner) is the upper right corner of the network manager (the network manager icon is in the system tray). Now, it’s working ;)!
You replying to a very old thread. In general, you should start a new thread. Things can change!
Anyway…
Connection Editor > IPv4 tab > Method ‘Manual’ > Click ‘Add’ for ‘Address’, ‘Netmask’ and ‘Gateway’. Don’t forget to add a suitable DNS server as well. (Many DSL routers perform this role, so same as gateway address if that is the case.)
